It dawned on me that I hadn't yet posted what you should have on hand to meet your basic preparedness needs (3-5 days). Here's a short list:

Prescription Medication - At least 1 week's worth for each person AND pet
Potassium Iodide pills (In case of meltdown / attack at nearby nuclear power station)
Water - Minimum 1 gal per person, per day (1x 5gal jug per person). May want to double that for cooking, etc.
Wet wipes / sanitizing wipes for cleaning your body without using water
Plastic sheeting & Duct tape in case you need to seal off a room, window, or entrance to your home (or the air vents)
First aid kit (splints, bandages, gauze, tape, band-aids in various sizes, tums/rolaids, Immodium, Pepto, Ibuprophen, Tylenol, Aspirin, burn cream, antibiotic ointment, cold compresses, suture kit, snake bite / sting extractor kit, scissors, forceps, moleskin pads, smelling salts, mini tubes of super glue gel, Epi-pen)
2 or more N-95 or better respirators / masks for each person
Ample food for a week that does not require cooking (although cooking may be preferred). I recommend things like canned beans, beefaroni, franks & beans, deviled ham or chicken spread, bread, rolls, or the like (for home only)
Lantern(s)
Camping stove
Propane for lanterns & stove(s)
Can opener (x2)
Toilet Paper
Minimum 1 flashlight per person
Extra batteries for all battery powered items (3 sets for each)
Generator / Solar / Wind Turbine (Optional)
Ice or frozen water bottles already in freezer to preserve food iin fridge / freezer longer.
Battery powered fans (nice to have)
"Pump up" personal misters (Nice to have, especially in AZ)

Oft-forgotten Camping Supplies

Here are a few camping supplies you might not think to include in your regular camping kit, bit they can prove to be incredibly useful...

Extra large, black, trash bags
Not just for trash... can be repurposed as a poncho with a couple of cuts. You can also put your sleeping bag inside them for an extra layer of warm insulation & waterproofing.
100+ feet of Paracord
Hundreds of uses... repairing tent guy lines, constructing lean-to's, hanging lanterns, triplines, snares, alarm systems (with some empty cans), and many more.
Extra tarp
Used as an extra rain barrierr when your tent leaks (The rain fly waterproofing usually is not that good), or to build a lean-to, rain cover for picnic table.
Extra backpack or duffel bag
Bear bag... Use to store food high above ground level to keep bears and other animals out.
Road flares
Auxilliary fire starters (Will dry out and ignite even wet wood), also for signalling if you run into trouble.
Solar powered / crank powered weather radio / gadget charger
Obvious
Flint & Steel
What happens when you fall & crack the case on your Bic lighter or lose your Zippo?
9V battery & fine steel wool
Touching the battery to the steel wool causes it to become hot enough to ignite your fire tinder. (A cell phone battery & steel wool may be used in an emergency)
